What Does Chlamydia Look Like

One of the most common sexually transmitted diseases that occur mostly to sexually active persons ages 25 and below is the Chlamydia trachomatis, which is a type of microorganism. Being the most aggressive transmitted infection, almost four million US residents has this kind of bacteria left unnoticed. The question is, how does chlamydia looks like?

This produces very few symptoms, however, six out of ten persons are infected. Females may find vaginal discharges that looks muck which are usually not diagnosed early due to its inconsistent presence even during a routinary check-up. Males, however, may experience pain when passing urine and see a whitish discharge from their penis which is usually occurring in the early hours of the morning but gradually clears, hence, unnoticed toward the end of the day. Others would just see a mucus discharge in the underwear.

Due to its mild symptoms, Chlamydia trachomatis, is often regarded as a silent sexually transmitted disease. Bacteria from this infection appears only one to three weeks after being exposed to the said organism from a sexual intercourse, either by vaginal or anal, with a person who is infected. Pregnant women can also pass this infection to their newly born after during birth. This is also the reason why it is too late and complicated when a person carrying it is diagnosed. When infection in the cervix, anus, and/or urethra due to a severe attack of the bacteria happens, bleeding may occur, with pain during urination and an on and off fever accompanying it depending on the degree of infection.

Men who are infected and not treated early would develop a urinary tract infection, which causes swelling and pain of the scrotum that could lead to epididymitis, an illness in the male reproductive system.

Some visible Chlamydia symptoms are:
In Males, they would find a mild feeling of irritation at the tip of their penis that eventually disappears. Though the pain is gone, the infection and bacteria could still be present. This could in time be a cause of infertility and erectile dysfunction for some.
· burning feeling when passing uring
· inflammation of the pelvic area
· an off-white mucus discharge from the male organ
· swelling and pain in the testicles and its surrounding area
· pain and swelling in the rectum and its surrounding area
· abdominal pains

In Females it is eighty per cent asymptomatic. The only change that can be taken for granted at times is abdominal pain, or change in discharge seen mostly in underwear.
· mucus discharge from the vagina
· cystitis can be present
· pain when passing urine
· frequent passing of urine
· pain just about the pelvic area
· abdominal pains
· pain and burning sensation during intercourse
· there are times bleeding may occur after intercourse
· bleeding in between periods
· pain and swelling in the rectum and its surrounding area
· infection in the urinary tract

If it remains untreated, this could lead to various complications that would affect the uterus, ovaries, and fallopian tubes in women. Sometimes it would even cause Pelvic Inflammatory Disease - PIC and these needs intensive care. Since this kind of bacteria grows only inside the body, it is really difficult to detect it even under the microscope that it is even hard for it to be developed inside the laboratory. At the first sign of any of the above-mentioned symptoms, it is still best to consult the doctor right away especially after an unprotected sex to get the recommended dose of antibiotics.
